Shapers Youth Parliament is an independent, art-led civic learning experience for young people aged 11+. Participants explore real-world issues, investigate evidence, engage with communities, meet professionals, develop solutions and experience how decisions are made within society.
Through practical learning, role play, simulations, discussion, teamwork, leadership activities and creative projects, participants gain first-hand experience of how government, public systems, law, policy and communities interact. The majority of learning takes place through performance-based activities that encourage participants to apply knowledge, solve problems and explore real-world situations in engaging and memorable ways.
The programme develops an understanding of how society works while introducing young people to the knowledge, behaviours and practical skills that support informed decision-making, financial awareness, effective communication, critical thinking and active participation in community life.
From asking questions to developing solutions, participants are encouraged to think independently, work collaboratively and understand how individuals, communities and institutions can shape positive change. Some participants may choose to progress into school councils, youth councils, youth parliaments and other leadership opportunities.
Impact for Young People
Young people leave Shapers Youth Parliament with a broader understanding of the world around them and greater confidence in navigating education, employment, entrepreneurship and community life. They gain practical experience of analysing issues, communicating ideas, working with others and responding constructively to real-world challenges.
By connecting learning with real-life experiences, professional role models and community engagement, Shapers Youth Parliament helps participants build the knowledge, perspective and adaptability needed to recognise opportunities, navigate barriers and contribute positively to society throughout their lives.
Participants receive Shapers Youth Parliament Certificates of Achievement recognising their learning, participation, leadership and contribution throughout the programme. These provide a valuable record of personal development, practical skills and civic engagement that can support future education, volunteering and career opportunities.

Why Shapers Youth Parliament Exists?
Young people are growing up in a rapidly changing world that demands more than academic achievement alone. Success increasingly depends on communication, teamwork, critical thinking, adaptability, financial awareness, digital capability and the confidence to engage with opportunities.
Many young people lack access to professional networks, mentors, role models and practical experiences that help them understand how to navigate adult life, explore future pathways and make informed decisions about their education, careers and personal development. Others may feel disconnected from decision-making processes or uncertain about how to have their voices heard and contribute positively to their communities.
Shapers Youth Parliament was established to help bridge these gaps by providing practical experiences, skills development and opportunities for participation. Through learning, collaboration and real-world engagement, young people are supported to build confidence, broaden aspirations and develop the knowledge, skills and mindset needed to thrive in education, employment, entrepreneurship and community life.
